  pluto is farthest planet from the sun. it is so far away from the sun that it takes 248 years to go around the sunonce. earth goes around the sun onceence year. now we see that a years on pluto is equal to 248 years on earth. pluto takes about six days to rotate once. earth rotates onece each day. now we see that aday on pluto is equal to about six earth days.Because pluto is so far away. it was not discovered until 1930.it was thelast  of the planets thatare far from the nine planets to be discoveeed. Most of the planets that are far from the sun are very lerge. pluto is small. some scientists think that pluto was once just amoon of neptune. he may have drifted away from neptune to become aplanet. pluto is  very cold. h isso cold that that eaythair would freeze in to a solid liklicelon pluto  surface..

kalani temple is a very beautful temple. it is very  close to colombo city. it is stuater by the kalani river.the dagaba is very big and the paintings in the shrine are very beautful——buddhists and non buddists visit kalaniya temple daily.the lord buddha first visited kalaniya to settle a disupute bet ween,                   

The sri lanka farmer is a simple villager. he may  not be able to books or write letters. yet he knows his job well.he knows his field. he knows about the climate. above all, he knows how to get good crops from his field. Afarmer’s work is different at different times of the year. inthe rainy season he ploughs his field. then he plants paddy. During the next months he has to weed his field ,fertilize it and remove the worms and insects that eat the paddy plants. when the paddy is ripe the field turns golden. by thim usually the climate is warm. the farmer reaps the harvest with the help of other fellow-villagers.

vesak is themost important religious festival to buddhists. it is held in the month of may every year. it morks three imrortant evets in the life of lord buddha.they ard the  passing away of lord buddha.

                                        we observe ‘’sil” on this day . we also listen to serm ons and other religious talks. we decorate our houses with vesak lanterns and other decorotions. we also illuminate aur houses with coloured bulds.                

                                  pandals are erected at pudlic places. we go on pilgrimages to sacred places. All these acts purify our thoghts. speoial religi ous programmes are implemented too areheld.     Let us live happily in peace and harmony on this important day.

There are many different kinds of hobbies Many take the form of Collecting some collect coins, picture post cards and sea shells.My hobby is collecting stamps. It is also called philately. A person who collect s stamps is called a philatelist. we can learn many things through this h Everyone of us has a hobby a person who pursues a hobby obby. It is insttructive, educational and also profitable.
I was so attracted by the colourful stamps that I started
collecting stamps from the follwing day it self. we can learn abot the culture fauna and flora, history, discoveries, inven tions and biograpbles of great men through stamps. the rare and very old stamps can be sold at very high prices.There are stamps invarious shapes.There fore first day covers are as valua ble as stamps.

reading is a very useful hobby. it helps usto spend our leisure inauseful manner.we can improve our knowledge by reading. we read novels.short stories, magazines and news papers. xwe also read books on various subjects.we can get pleasure by reading novels and short stories. wecan learn good qualities of great persons by reading their bio graphies. i am a memder of the  puplic  library. borrow two book at a time and  i  can  keep tham for a period of two weeks. book can be rgarded as our friends ”Reading makes a perfect man” this is  a great saying expressed by  francis bacon . books basilly contain knowledge so by reading we gain knowlege on  variety of subjects. it is said that the knowledge is power. the  best wayto gain  knowleddge is  by reading books..

Thomas Alva Edison one of the great ameerican inventors was born in 1847. his parentorswere very poor. Asa young boy. Thomas had to earm a living asa news paper boyon railway trains. with the little money he saved he dought chemicals he bought books and learnt chemicals and conducted experiments with them. later he was employed in a telegraph office.he was not contented with the work he did. he read studied and made vayious experiments in the field. he was searching for ways to improve telegraphy. with ina short period of time he presented his proposals for the improvent of the existing system. they ware accepted. when he was twenty two he received forty thousand dollars for an invention.

sigiriya is a rook fortress kings.it was built by kings kasyapa. it is situated in the matale district.
sigiriya is world famous for its frescoes. hundreds of foreign tourists visit this place every day. it has
become a popular place among the local tourists too. we con alsc see the insorions on the mirror wall. they are called graffiti. these verses have been written on this wall by the visitors is ancient times.  the height of the rook is about 600 feet. there are yuins  of ancient palace on the top of the rock . also thrre is a most around the rock . sigiriya is con sidered  the  eighth  wonder of the word..
